Lousewort, or Pericularis canadensis, is said to be named so because farmers used to believe their cattle would eat these, and it would result in a lice outbreak.

Louse is singular of lice. Wort means it has medicinal values.

Their belief seems just a tale of misconstrued information because this plant actually helps remove lice. It is also commonly called wood betony.

Stomach aches, ulcers, and gut probs can be soothed with this plant. The roots can be chopped up for a tea that can fight muscle inflammation, or chopped and sprinkled into your food for an aphrodisiac.
