The Native American story of the hummingbird goes as follows: There was a raging wildfire and all the forest animals were fleeing to safety, except one hummingbird. It flew back and forth, filling its beak up with water from a stream to relinquish the flames, a few drops at a time. All the other forest animals tried to dissuade them by saying things like, "it's no use, don't waste your energy; you are too little, your wings will burn." The hummingbird responded, "I am doing what I can."
The hummingbird is remembered for its sheer determination and willpower to do what is right, even if it only appears to make a small difference. The other animals learned that in the face of such events, one who takes action can be an influence of great change.
I saw this vision of green and blue abstract shapes, with two hummingbirds flying outwards. After this vision, I had heard this story. Then when planning it out... or letting the brush wander across the canvas, the center appeared to have these sorts of tribal shapes.
I see the green and blue as land and sky, but also of heart and throat chakras. These were certainly clear for the hummingbird that day.
